Eating local – Farmers Market

This weekend we stopped into our small but abundant farmers market. It’s only the second time we’ve been to our new town’s market. We were pretty impressed with the amount of our grocery shopping we were able to do there.

Eating local is important to us. And since it will be next year before we start our own vegetable garden, having access to a farmers market is the next best thing. I love going straight to the produce stands with their colorful array of veggies and fruit.

We were able to score some delicious produce, milk, meat, cheese, and bread this weekend! Check it out (everything not pictured).

Our menu for the week includes corn chowder with ham and a side of garlic bread (not pictured); local pork chops (not pictured) with corn and crowder peas; and roasted chicken thighs with baked sweet potatoes and Christmas Lima beans. Yum!

What makes the farmers market and growing your own produce fun is that you have to work with what is ready. No looking for recipes and getting your ingredients from the store. It’s just the opposite!

What are your favorite farmers market finds?
